| Shell -
The Corporate History |
|
The
familiar seashell trademark of the Shell ID made its first
U.S. appearance in 1912. The Royal Dutch-Shell Group founded the
American Gasoline Company to sell gasoline in the Pacific Northwest
and San Francisco Bay areas. In 1913, the California Oilfields
Ltd. was purchased and, in 1915 a revolutionary new refinery was
completed in Martinez, California.
Shell continued
to grow through the formation of several companies around the
country. In 1922, these were merged with the Union Oil Company
of Delaware to form the publicly held Shell Union Oil Corporation.
By 1929, Shell Union was selling gasoline in all 48 states and
the territory of Hawaii. This publicly held company existed until
1985 when it became wholly owned by The Royal Dutch-Shell Group.
Shell's business
has always extended beyond selling gasoline. In the 30's, Shell
scientists developed new petrochemical fertilizer products. During
the 40's, Shell led the way in developing chemicals for synthetic
rubber and explosives, and invented a method for purifying penicillin,
while supplying the Allies with large quantities of aviation fuel.
Throughout its history, Shell has met the needs of a changing
world, introducing the first jet fuel to the U.S., leading in
the development of engine lubricants and continually investing
in processes and products that provide a safer environment.

Shell - Our Local History |
|
Our history
begins with our owner - William Evans. Bill, born August 17, 1950,
started in the service station business December, 1966. He purchased
his first station at the ripe young age of 22 in 1972. He expanded
the operations into truck rentals, home heating oil, and multiple
service stations over the course of 15 years. Bill relocated in
the upstate area of New York and started operation of Brewster
Shell on June 18, 1988. Ryder Truck Rental was then added in December
of the same year. Brewster Shell has become the #1 location in
the district.

Shell - Our Staff |
William Evans
Started Brewster Shell on June 18, 1988 after owning a Shell Station
on Long Island for many years.
Barbara Evans
Joined
Brewster Shell in the summer of 1996. She is our first contact
with all customers. Barbara handles our repair shop schedule,
employment schedule, and the purchasing and restocking of the
Snack Shop inventory. On a personal note from Bill, she is "the
most valuable asset of Brewster Shell because of her ability to
interact with all customers and stay on top of all that goes on
inside Brewster Shell."
Gary Howley
Joined
the staff in June of 1997. He has been the backbone of the repair
shop ever since his arrival. Trained in many fields, including
engine diagnosing and drivability problems. He is back to school
many nights during the year to continue his education and learn
the techniques required for today's automobiles.
Locals
We employee many
local residents from 16 years old up. They help us serve our
diverse customer base.
Technician Gary Howley and owner Bill Evans.
