Inside Shell - Employment

We would like you to get to know us here at Brewster Shell, so we
have put together some information about us for you to read at your leisure.

Shell - The Corporate History

The familiar seashell trademark of the Shell ID made its first U.S. appearance in 1912. The Royal Dutch-Shell Group founded the American Gasoline Company to sell gasoline in the Pacific Northwest and San Francisco Bay areas. In 1913, the California Oilfields Ltd. was purchased and, in 1915 a revolutionary new refinery was completed in Martinez, California.

Shell continued to grow through the formation of several companies around the country. In 1922, these were merged with the Union Oil Company of Delaware to form the publicly held Shell Union Oil Corporation. By 1929, Shell Union was selling gasoline in all 48 states and the territory of Hawaii. This publicly held company existed until 1985 when it became wholly owned by The Royal Dutch-Shell Group.

Shell's business has always extended beyond selling gasoline. In the 30's, Shell scientists developed new petrochemical fertilizer products. During the 40's, Shell led the way in developing chemicals for synthetic rubber and explosives, and invented a method for purifying penicillin, while supplying the Allies with large quantities of aviation fuel. Throughout its history, Shell has met the needs of a changing world, introducing the first jet fuel to the U.S., leading in the development of engine lubricants and continually investing in processes and products that provide a safer environment.

In 2002 Shell decided to add value through appearance to match the value through products that has  been offered for years. They started making an investment in a RVI program, which means all Shell stations around the world will all look alike.  There will always be a few variations but the distinction will be made

Brewster Shell - Our Local History

Our history begins with our owner - William Evans. Bill, born August 17, 1950, started in the service station business December, 1966. He purchased his first station at the ripe young age of 22 in 1972. He expanded the operations into truck rentals, home heating oil, and multiple service stations over the course of 15 years. Bill relocated in the upstate area of New York and started operation of Brewster Shell on June 18, 1988. Ryder Truck Rental was then added in December of the same year. Brewster Shell has become the #1 location in the district.  Ryder has since been purchased by Budget Truck Rental.

Brewster Shell - Our Staff

William Evans
Started Brewster Shell on June 18, 1988 after owning a Shell Station on Long Island for almost 22 years.
This station was at 209 W Sunrise Hwy, in Merrick LI. He started there at 16 years old and has always flown the Shell flag.

Barbara Evans
Joined Brewster Shell in the summer of 1996. She is our first contact with all customers. Barbara handles our repair shop schedule, estimating, parts ordering and invoicing.  On a personal note from Bill, she  and her sister, Beth, are "the most valuable assets of Brewster Shell because of their ability to interact with all customers and stay on top of all that goes on inside Brewster Shell."

UPDATE: As of March 25, 2006, Barbara has tendered her resignation as she will be moving to Florida.  She spoke about this move for many years and thinks the timing is right, she will be missed.  She was our go to gal, my personal assistant and many other titles and hats.

Beth Evans

Has been working since a teenager.  She now shares many of her sister’s duties plus has the responsibilities of the employment schedule, and the purchasing and restocking of the Snack Shop inventory, handles all of your Budget Truck Rental needs.  On a personal note from Bill, she and her sister, Barbara, are "the most valuable assets of Brewster Shell because of their ability to interact with all customers and stay on top of all that goes on inside Brewster Shell."

Gary Howley: Resigned in August 2006
Joined the staff in June of 1997. He has been the backbone of the repair shop ever since his arrival. Trained in many fields, including engine diagnosing and drivability problems. He is back to school many nights during the year to continue his education and learn the techniques required for today's automobiles.

John Kleine: Resigned in December 2006

John joined us in 2005 in a part time mechanic position. He immediately went to a full time position after another tech, Eric Heinike resigned.  After just 1 1/2 years John also moved on as of December 1st 2006.

Jesus Barcenas : Hired October 1, 2006

Our most recent addition to the shop, comes with over 16 years experience and has filled the spot Gary held for 9 years. We are very pleased Jesus excepted our offer to come work for us.

May 1, 2007:  Jesus has become fully acclimated to his position. He works tirelessly and has our customers cars as his main concern. He works most days including Saturday mornings.

UPDATE: Jesus has done far more then expected of any one tech.  We are both working and handling the work load of both Gary and John.  We continue to explore hiring another tech when the timing is right.

This industry has gone through some trying times but we will continue to service all of loyal customers/

Locals

We employee many local residents from 16 years old up. They help us serve our diverse customer base.
